FreeBSD:Upgrade
From Hackepedia
Official FreeBSD Handbook version
Our condensed and more dangerous version of upgrading from FreeBSD 5.4 to 6.0 (but should apply to any version changes, just change the RELENG_6). Do a backup first.:
# grep -v ^# /etc/stable-supfile *default host=cvsup11.FreeBSD.org *default base=/var/db *default prefix=/usr *default release=cvs tag=RELENG_6 *default delete use-rel-suffix *default compress src-all
# cvsup /etc/stable-supfile # rm -rf /usr/obj # cd /usr/src # make buildworld # make buildkernel # make installkernel # reboot
when the machine is coming up, use "boot -s" to boot into super user mode.
# mergemaster -p # make installworld # mergemaster # reboot
