When you do something on the internet, there is a lot of information you as the client typically pass to the server. showipaddress.com will show you some of this information. If you want some anonymity when you surf to a webpage, you may wish to use a proxy, which is a machine between yourself and the server, so the server will think you are coming from the man in the middle. Be warned that there is nothing preventing the people you are trying to hide from -- from running the proxy you are trying to use. Also, because you're now going through a third party, the experience will also be slower.

Tor will help anonymize your web surfing session.
