  1. Take public transit or carpool instead of driving on your own
  2. For relatively short distances, take the train.
  3. Get a hybrid or hydrogen car.
  4. Take shorter showers to use less hot water hence less energy cost.
  5. Wash your clothes with cold water, using a cold-water detergent.
  6. Have an automatic thermostat that lowers temperature at night and raises it during the time you are at home or in the office. If you're a little cold, wear a sweater.
  7. Get up after sunrise and go to bed when it's dark to save using electricity for light; also get fluorescent bulbs.
  8. Orient your house, when you build it so as to maximize insolation in winter and shade in summer. That means planting deciduous trees, or selecting sites where tress exist, and not cutting them down.
